How secure do you feel your life is?
Recently, this question hit me hard. A medical issue, completely unexpected, threw my life into chaos overnight. It forced me to step back and reflect on the delicate balance—or imbalance—I had unknowingly been living with. I had a routine that looked solid: regular exercise, a healthy diet, and distancing myself from people and behaviors that didn’t serve me. But none of that stopped my world from spinning out of control.
What this experience revealed is how easily we become comfortable with what we "think" is balance. We fall into routines that feel like flow—work, exercise, socializing—and convince ourselves that this equals happiness. But here’s the truth: chaos often hides in that comfort. We become so accustomed to the familiar that we don’t notice when something is off beneath the surface.
In Buddhism, happiness is seen as an illusion, a human construct. It’s something we chase, thinking it can be achieved through comfort or routine. But happiness, as we perceive it, is a fleeting emotion, a state of temperance that only scratches the surface of our true potential. The pursuit of balance isn’t about chasing happiness—it’s about finding joy in how we live, and how we care for ourselves emotionally, physically, mentally, and spiritually.

When my medical issue hit, it wasn’t just about physical recovery. It made me question whether I had been living in an illusion of balance. Was I simply comfortable? Was I truly aligning myself with my deeper objective? I realized I had allowed routine to lull me into a sense of false security. I had mistaken the absence of discomfort for true balance.
Real balance requires stepping out of routine and comfortability. It’s about facing the parts of our lives that we ignore because they don’t fit into our daily habits. It's about asking ourselves the hard questions: Am I living in alignment with my highest self? Am I honoring my emotional and spiritual needs, or am I suppressing them to avoid discomfort?
True balance comes when we find joy—not in routine—but in how we grow and evolve, even through the challenges. When we step out of the illusion of happiness and comfort, we open ourselves to the full potential of life.
And that’s where true security lies—not in avoiding chaos or discomfort, but in being able to embrace it with a balanced, whole self.
So again, how secure do you really feel? Is your security rooted in routine or a deeper, more complete alignment with yourself? Now is the time to reflect on those hidden imbalances, step out of the illusion, and cultivate a life where every aspect of who you are is in harmony. Only then can we truly handle life’s unpredictability with grace.

Note: when you are working with your energy to find balance, understand balance within personal growth is not necessary "level". The aim is to find flow in all that you do in life, where the amount of energy, thought, and care you give to individual areas of your life is matched by what you receive in exchange for your efforts.
